The Value of Calendula

"A positive attitude is good medicine."

To be honest, I knew nothing about this flower until last year. First off, it was orange. I don't do orange. Second, it was an annual. I don't do annuals.

Then I got cancer. Which meant, among other things, I had to do radiation treatment. While radiation treatment doesn't seem like it, those that have undergone it, know the rays burn you from the inside out. Radiotherapy is good for "mopping up" any remaining cancer cells. Which means it burns the hell out of them.

And you.

I was so burnt, so red, so hot that I eventually went into the emergency room. While they didn't give me the cure, I started reading up on possible remedies.

I came across calendula.

Calendula flower is used to prevent muscle spasms, start menstrual periods, and reduce fever. It is also used for treating sore throat and mouth, menstrual cramps, cancer, and stomach and duodenal ulcers.

Calendula is applied to the skin to reduce pain and swelling (inflammation) and to treat poorly healing wounds and leg ulcers. It is also applied to the skin (used topically) for nosebleeds, varicose veins, hemorrhoids, inflammation of the rectum, and inflammation of the lining of the eyelid.

You can grow your own calendula or you can purchase it:
